Every child needs to know how to swim in order to survive in and around water - swimming lessons should be a compulsory and non-negotiable part of every child’s education. This is one extra mural activity that is not an extravagance, but rather one of the best investments you will ever make. The latest statistics for drowning in South Africa shows a substantial increase, with over 600 cases reported and recorded each year.
Besides equipping children with a vital life skill, by enrolling them in swimming classes you will be greatly enhancing, promoting and improving their visual and auditory skills, general muscle tone, respiratory function, co-ordination, body space awareness and bone density. Children who attend swimming lessons are being developed and stimulated beyond most of our expectations.
Baby Fishes has been in existence since 1986 and we are passionate about teaching and allowing children the ability to explore the wonders of water.
Water Temperature makes a difference to what we can or can't do in water. Even 1C degree is felt more acutely in water than on land. At Baby Fishes our water temperature is between 32-34 degrees - the optimal temperature for infants.
Ideal Facility Design
The pool at Baby Fishes is specifically designed for baby classes. The temperature is carefully regulated, and there are grip rails installed. Changerooms are situated inside the facility so that there is no need to leave the room in bad weather.
All our Baby Fishes instructors are SSA Todswim trained and accredited. They undergo specific skills training aimed at 12 months old to 48 month infants. They follow the ideal (up to) 6:1 Todswim parent/infant swimmer/teacher ratio.
At Baby Fishes we believe that sensory integration is vital in infant and toddler swimming classes. We focus on including additional elements such as grip strength, fine motor skill development, core strength and breath control.
